Film Theory's-Matthew Gollick

narration- The way in which the story arranges information and gives it to an audience
unrestricted narrative
With the audience knowing whats happening more than the character does himself. This is used in our film when we see into the future we can see the outcomes before other characters in the film.

closed narrative
a Close narrative is where all the lose ends of the film are tied up on screen and the narrative comes to an end. While this also still leaves room for speculation where the audience can wonder what happens the actual events that drove the story have come to an end for example the main character of a villain is caught. in our film we use a closed narrative as our main character dies at the end of the film.

Claude Levi-Strauss theory

Levi-Strauss introduced the notion of binary oppositions as a useful way to consider the production of meaning within narratives. His argument was that all construction was dependent upon the oppositions. Some examples of these oppositions may be for example good-evil, east-west, dark-light. Our film uses this theory as we have oppositions to some degree with present-future, These throughout the film determine on outcomes which effect Brian whether he wins or loses at the events within the film.

Tzvetan Todorov’s Equilibrium theory

His theory is a relatively simple one and goes something like this:
1. The fictional environment begins with a state of equilibrium (everything is as it should
be)
2. It then suffers some disruption (disequilibrium)
3. New equilibrium is produced at the end of the narrative
There are five stages the narrative can progress through:
• A state of equilibrium (all is as it should be)
• A disruption of that order by an event
• A recognition that the disorder has occurred
• An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption
• A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium

To an extent our film also has aspects of Todorov's theory with an event that takes place near the beginning of the film which leads a trail path of another story. This incident that takes place leads to a narrative which doesn't follow a linear narrative but a switch between present and future. At the start of the film an event takes place which changes the natural day to day routine of Brian's life.
