Title sequence- idea 1 Matthew Gollick

This is my first idea for a possible title sequence.

  • At the start of the title sequence we will have a close up of someone spinning a poker chip on a table
  • To add effect to this we will slow down the motion of the poker chip as it is spinning
  • as the hands come away from the shot we will see a high angle shot of the poker chip comes to a stop
  • Here the camera will zoom into the poker chip and come out from the eye of Brian where we will use video effects to bring out the other symbols in our film using screen overlays of black and white and red to symbolise blood and the gift vision which Brian gains in the film from hitting his head on the wall
  • From this shoot we will cut back to the table where we will speed up the film so that when we add poker chips to the pile it will link to the gamble aspect of our film
  • Several shots of cards as they fall down onto the table
  • To conclude this title sequence we  will cut back to Brian face using the black and white video filters and red filters to symbolise the blood and gift which are all symbols of the film

Film sound effects and music

So that we had sound effects and music ready for when we start editing our film I have started to look at sound effects which we are using.

The sites which I will be using are:
http://www.freesound.org/
http://www.proudmusiclibrary.com/en/

The sounds which we need for our short film are

  • Football sounds

This sound effect which I have found from the website freesound.org is a background sound from a football match. This sound will be used to play in some shots when Brian and Neil are sat watching football.

  • ambulance sirens

This sound effect which I have found from the website freesound.org is ambulance siren, this effect will be used at the closing stages of our short film when Brian is laid on the floor in the result of the car accident.
  • car braking sounds

This sound effect was also found on the website freesound.org, this effect is a car which is stopping from a fast speed as a result of this the car makes a high pitched braking sound. This will also be used at the end of our film when Brian steps out into the road.
  • bang sounds effects

The sound effect above has also been found on the website freesound.org, this effect is a loud crashing sound this will be used just before the siren effect to show that the car hits Brian as he steps into the road as a result the car hits him, this effect represents this.
  • title sequence song
I decided to select this song for our title sequence as I feel it fits perfectly with the genre of our film being supernatural thriller, it captures the paranormal sounds which Brian comes across in our film the music gives a hint of unnatural events which soon follow
  • credits song
I finally decided that this was the perfect fit for the credits in our film. It syncs really well with the end tone to our film which is Brian's death. The piano melody also works well with the supernatural thriller genre.

The Unpredictable- film certificate

The Unpredictable

Who are the BBFC? And what is their job?
The BBFC are a UK based trust which now days work around films certificates. They had previously worked in other areas of the media industry in game certificate. the role of the BBFC is to view films before they are distributed to the public, in this process it is the responsibilities of the moderators to give the film a suitable age rating. This process follows a set of guidelines which are regularly updated through the system. BBFC have the role to highlight what is and what isn't acceptable for a 15 for example, if something in the film is not acceptable they may move the age rating up to 18 or even cut this aspect out, feeding back to the producers which then will change this aspect of the film.

What does the certificate 15 mean?
No one under the age of 15 can go and watch this film. nor buy or rent at a local rental store.

What does the 15 rated film contain which makes it a 15?
  • Drugs taking
  • brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
  • discriminatory language or behaviour
  • Strong violence
These are an over view of some aspects which are taken into consideration by the BBFC when awarding a 15 certificate.

What makes our film an 15 certificate rating?

Our film has the clear uses of some of the guidelines for a 15 rated film which makes it a 15 and not a 12. As our film contains a large number of scenes containing gambling makes it unsuitable for the younger audience. Throughout the film we show several uses of drugs taking, however this is only a mild use of it which involves several shots of Brian placing a tablet in his mouth. Other aspects which consolidate the 15 rating is use of language however, it is only mild and isn't used frequently or strong enough to make this unacceptable for the 15 rating. In terms of violence Our film doesn't show frequently gory images only in the last few shots when we see Brian laid out on the floor after he gets hit by the car, here we see very mild gory images of blood.

Our film target audience?

As our film has been given an age rating 15, we will be addressing our target audience between the ages 17-25, which we found from our audience questionnaires previously in our project.
